We picked some beans, peppers, and tomatoes from our garden today. Everything is looking good and the kids are having fun.

Hi Everyone,
I hope you are all well! I was in the garden yesterday and everything is really growing! Due to my having a family event tomorrow and being out of town next week, Amy will be with you all tomorrow the 30th at 7 pm and Deb Shawver (a 3rd grade teacher) will join you all next Thursday the 8th. I'll be excited to see you all Tuesday the 13th. As we near the start of school, please let me know if you are interested in volunteering in some capacity during the school year. In the meantime as I am in the garden I will take photos to post on our weebly and plan to make some decisions for how to use the PTA grant (while keeping some in reserve). See you all soon, Jennifer Gregg, LCSW, ATR Social Worker John Middleton Elementary School District #73.5 Some of the plants are getting huge, there are new shelves in the green house, and the kids are having a ton of fun in the garden.
I just heard back from the PTA that we have been awarded a $1,700 grant.
One large item I was hoping to purchases is a picnic table(s) that would seat a class both in the garden area and in the courtyard. If anyone has the time and desire to start a search for all weather tables (hopefully to seat a class- about 23) that would be wonderful. We can compare our finding to make the best use of our money. We would be granted tax exemption b/c we are a school and hopefully free shipping for such a large item it is it not local. Perhaps with calling the places too, they would give us a portion donated as well... Thank you for any help you can lend and I look forward to seeing you all on Thursday if you are able to attend our 7 pm garden night. Jennifer Gregg, LCSW, ATR Social Worker John Middleton Elementary School District #73.5 Hi Everyone,
Everything in the garden is really growing! Thank you so much to those who have attended our gatherings and to those tending to the garden in-between gatherings. The kids planted summer squash seeds that are in the new soil mounds and 2 blueberry bushes by the gate. These do not have a soaker hose reaching them so could use some extra watering. 70$ of unused soil was returned to Home Depot and I am planing to purchase a soaker hose and timer for the GH. I would also like to save money for additional seeds. Please let me know if you have other ideas that we should keep in mind. Thank you all again and have a nice weekend. Jennifer Gregg, LCSW, ATR Social Worker John Middleton Elementary School District #73.5 We picked some more strawberries, pea pods, and lettuce. We ate a tasty salad from the garden. Some more weeds were cleared out. The kids played some shark and minnow (tag game) in the court yard. Some signs we put up What a beautiful summer night.
Looking forward to seeing everyone next Thursday. Hi Everyone,
I am looking forward to joining all of you this Thursday at 7pm for our next garden club gathering. I hope to complete the signs, weed, water, and have a salad. Would anyone like to bring a dressing? Garden news: the tops of a few carrots are emerging, a few strawberries have been enjoyed and broccoli seeds have been planted for a fall harvest. Thank you to all the families who have participated so far in helping to water and tend to the garden in between our club gatherings. See you soon, Jennifer Gregg, LCSW, ATR Social Worker John Middleton Elementary School District #73.5 Today the kids started to make signs for the plants. We also weeded some more, watered the flower beds, and harvested some delicious peas. Oh yeah, and of course looked for worms and a roly poly's (aka pill bug).
Thank you so much for all your work and communication Jennifer.
It made me so happy to be a part of the garden work last week, novice that I am. It is a lovely garden and lovely families are tending and caring for it. I know Artie Gilbert would be so very pleased that Middleton has such a garden and that children are helping things grow from the earth. :) Theresa Buckman-Gilbert Hi Everyone, I am happy to share these photos of new plants starting to grow (tomatoes, cucumbers, and strawberries). I look forward to seeing those who can join our garden club gathering tomorrow at 7pm. Let's start decorating signs so everyone knows what we are growing! If you have any supplies you are able to share for this project, please let me know. Thank you and see you soon. Jennifer Gregg, LCSW, ATR Social Worker John Middleton Elementary School District #73.5 TOMATOES. Here are the baby tomatoes starting to grow. CUCUMBERS Looks like they are starting to sprout. Someone should get a ruler and chart their growth on Tuesday. STRAWBERRIES I can't wait for the yummy strawberries to start turning red. How long do you thing that will be. Someone should chart this too. I think there is a recipe that can be used on the recipe page here, check it out... Click here for recipe page |
"As a child, one has that magical capacity to move among the many eras of the earth; to see the land as an animal does; to experience the sky from the perspective of a flower or a bee; to feel the earth quiver and breathe beneath us; to know a hundred different smells of mud and listen unself- consciously to the soughing of the trees." eMail us your comments or photos of the garden, so that we can share them with everyone.
