Some 3rd Graders spent some of their day perfecting their skills of harvesting tomatoes and working on their green thumbs.
Some pumpkins are starting to come in. There are some caterpillars on the vines as well. The caterpillar/cacoon with the white parasites on it will now help fight off other tomato eating bugs.
Dear Middleton's Gilbert Garden Club Families,
I hope you are all doing well! Many students and staff have already enjoyed the garden during the beginning weeks of school. The social work team has made fresh pesto with 3 classrooms so far! The kids have loved this garden project time. Several teachers have had their morning meeting time with students in the garden and have taken the opportunity to harvest and enjoy. Several teacher have also incorporated their students' experience in the garden and greenhouse into writing projects. We have also provided tomatoes, cucumbers, and herbs to students in the cafeteria. I wanted to take this opportunity to also share that on October 4th from 6pm-7pm (with a rain date of October 7th from 6pm-7pm) a dedication ceremony will be held in the garden in memory of Mr. Gilbert. All families will be receiving a letter of invitation. If you have not already, please let me know if you are interested in signing up to water the garden on any weekend dates. If there are specif dates that work best for you, please let me know this as well. Please remember to continue to check out our web site for updated information and photos at http://middletongarden.weebly.com/photos--blogs.html Thank you and take care, Jennifer Gregg, LCSW, ATR Social Worker John Middleton Elementary School District #73.5 |
"As a child, one has that magical capacity to move among the many eras of the earth; to see the land as an animal does; to experience the sky from the perspective of a flower or a bee; to feel the earth quiver and breathe beneath us; to know a hundred different smells of mud and listen unself- consciously to the soughing of the trees." eMail us your comments or photos of the garden, so that we can share them with everyone.
