Another big thank you to all the families that came out to help weed the garden, harvest some of the crops, and move the soil. The kids were such a big help and had lots of fun in the garden.
Hello Everyone!
Good news... you know that great new raised bed that was recently built in the garden that needs more dirt for planting?? Kathy Wicks of Buy the Yard generously donated a yard of dirt to the Gilbert Garden ... to be delivered tomorrow, Tuesday July 29th! Although we will also be weeding, watering, and harvesting, our focus at tomorrow's 6:00 pm Garden Club gathering will be moving that dirt into the raised bed. Should be fun. :) Hope to see you there! Mrs. Shawver Hi Everyone,
I am looking forward to our garden gathering tonight at 6:30. We will work on returning most of the bricks to give the fast growing 3 sister's garden more space. We will also work on weeding. Lastly we can check what is ready to harvest! See you all tonight, The new L-Shaped raised garden bed is complete. It just needs to be filled with garden soil.
Today we weeded and spread mulch all throughout the garden with lots of work from everyone. The kids were a huge help with shoveling and driving the wheelbarrow. We then harvested a lot of lettuce and other vegetables for salads. Thanks everyone for a beautiful and sunny Tuesday evening of gardening. Hi Everyone,
Home Depot continued to work on the last garden bed yesterday. They did not complete the bed and will be out again soon to continue the project. The crew has been volunteering their time and not charging us for labor, which is amazing! Since much time was spent tending to the garden yesterday, I would like to propose that our next garden gathering be on July 8th. Please let me know if you have another suggestion. I hope you all have a wonderful week and July 4th holiday. See you all soon, Jennifer Gregg, LCSW, ATR Social Worker John Middleton Elementary School District #73.5 Hi Everyone,
CANCELLED: I heard from several families that camps are having shows Tuesday night, so we WILL NOT be meeting on Tuesday night (July 1st). ADDED: I will actually be at Middleton most of the day this Saturday (June 28th), as Home Depot works on continuing to build the raised L-Shaped bed. I would like to suggest that any families who are interested in coming to the garden on Saturday can meet up with us any time between 10-4 (perhaps later). If you decide to come, please call or text me (cell number listed in regularly sent eMail) to let me know when you will be coming so I can let you in if the door is locked or if I am at the park with my kids. ADDED: In thinking more about it, I will email you all to update you if Home Depot completes the raised bed Saturday. If they do, I am able to have our gathering Wednesday the 2nd or Thursday the 3rd. We could use this time to spread out the wood chips and perhaps plant (depending on if we have soil in the bed). Thank you all for your continuing support!!! Jennifer Gregg, LCSW, ATR Social Worker John Middleton Elementary School District #73.5 The rain lasted only 5 minutes and then was beautiful.
The kids planted pumpkins and squash in the courtyard. The garden was weeded. The courtyard greenhouse was watered. Stones were spread out to define areas in the garden a little better. And of course, we harvested some of the plants for a great salad. |
"As a child, one has that magical capacity to move among the many eras of the earth; to see the land as an animal does; to experience the sky from the perspective of a flower or a bee; to feel the earth quiver and breathe beneath us; to know a hundred different smells of mud and listen unself- consciously to the soughing of the trees." eMail us your comments or photos of the garden, so that we can share them with everyone.
